Perry is Perry is a Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback) Her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's initial TV roles. Perry did not decide to consider a career in acting after reaching adulthood, as her parents were worried about the detrimental effects that stress could be a cause of. Perry confessed that she wasn't at ease in the stage during high school. However, she began doing it to meet new people during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry managed to get minor TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. Homesickness, however, caused her to move to California to return, where she started working in the stage. She and her mother starred on Broadway with her as part of The Other Place, in 2013. In 2015 she performed alongside her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry starred in the drama's nine episodes from 2016 on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017, she was a part-time character in ABC's political thriller Scandal which starred her father. The actress was also featured on The CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother. She was cast in the role in spite of her strong relationship with the character's family.
